![]() ![]() They tell you what to expect and safety issues on the ride there and then you just have fun floating down the canal and through long tunnels through the mountains. You actually tube through the water irrigation canals so you don't need life jackets since it's shallow enough to stand up in. They drive you to the site in a unimog through private property and old plantations. We booked this excursion online and had the best time. This was a great tour that I'd recommend to anyone visiting Kauai! ![]() The guides had us turn our miner's lights off for the last one and experience it in complete darkness! What a great time! After we exited the flume, we road in the van to a picnic area and ate sandwiches before heading back to their office. We traveled through five underground tunnels during our three hour tour. As we got into the water, a couple of the kids in our group slipped up and said "freezing" and "cold", which warranted an immediate splashing by our lead guide! It didn't take long for us to better choose our wording using such adjectives as "rejuvenating", "refreshing", and "brisk". We were told any words beginning with "F" and "C" were not acceptable because they were bad for business. Once we arrived at the insertion point, we received a safety briefing and warning. We stopped at one point to view Waialeale Crater and learn a little bit about what makes it the wettest place on Earth and why the canals were built to begin with. His humor had me rolling and made what can only be described as "bumpy" ride much more bearable. During our 15 minute ride out to the flumes, Brandon (our guide) explained the history of the flumes and discussed the private property we were traveling on. Once we arrived at KBA's facilities we were outfitted with the necessary safety gear, loaded into a van and started on our drive. We chose Kauai Backcountry Adventures because we had read about a unique tour where you ride tubes through the old sugarcane irrigation canals. ![]()
